Making Faces

Good morning and welcome. It's challenge time again over at That's Crafty and the theme this fortnight is Anything goes. How fabulous is that hey. Anything you want to do so the world is your oyster as the saying goes. So why not have a go, you will be in the chance of winning a prize if you do so nothing to lose. Here is my DT inspiration for the challenge using one of the That's Crafty MDF upright splats, I just love them. You can see it here on the challenge blog along with all the other fab inspiration from the rest of our amazing design team.

Here's what I used...

That's Crafty 8x8 Stencil...Random Stones.
PaperArtsy stencil...Kay Carley 061.
That's Crafty stamp set...Textures Set 1.
Rubber Dance Stamp Set...Textured Flowers.
Stazon ink pad...Jet Black
Versafine ink pad...Onyx Black.
Archival ink pad...Fern Green.
Ranger ink pad...Glacier White.
Dina Wakley heavy body acrylic paint...Lime, Evergreen, Lemon, Tangerine and Ruby.
Posca Pen...White.
Sharpie Pen...Grey.
Polychromo pencils.
Netting from my stash which is netting that fruite and veg comes in. Yes I keep everything lol.

Here's what I did...

I began by sponging over my entire upright and base with white gesso. I have to admit that I'm loving this one. Then taking the lime green paint, I sponged up from the bottom to just under half way. Then I sponged on the lemon followed by tangerine until I reached the top. Once dry I placed the randon stones stencil over the surface, and using the darker shades I pounced them through the stencil using a sponge. Once dry I took the textures stamp set and used the element that looks like fine cracks and randomly stamped it using the fern green and did the same with the element that looks like circles and splats with the plum. I then used one small element from the textured flowers stamp set that looks like fine dots and circles to add some white with the glacier white ink. I then placed the PaperArtsy stencil to the left of the upright and using an ink blending tool I dabbed through with the evergreen acrylic paint to create the leaves and did the same on the right of the upright. All these steps were also done on the base of the upright too.

Happy with my splat I set that aside while concentrating on the fabulous Giraffe. He is just adorable. I stamped him out twice onto the card with black versafine and coloured them in with my favorite pencils and then cut them out. I decided where I wanted them placed and then stamped him directly onto the splat with black stazon. I like to do this as any little bits that are tricky to cut will then be there once the image is glued into place. I then stamped my wording onto the splat and again onto the base. Now happy I glued my boys into place. I added some highlights to my boys with a white posca pen and also some little dots to my background. I then decided to add some white into the wording too. Finally I used a grey sharpie pen to go around my images just to give a faint shadow. I am happy with the look now so time to glue my piece to its base. I did this using the same glue. Works well. Then I finished my piece by adding the fruit net around the bottom.

I hope you like it and that my instructions all made sense. I also hope that it may have given you some inspiration for you to take away and create something wonderful and even better, enter into our challenge. You can take a look at the challenge rules here.

Thank you so much for dropping by. Have a great weekend and hope to see you again soon.

Much love, Bev. xxx
